The annual Orfeus Award in Denmark is awarded by a committee of nationally acknowledged experts in education and software, chaired by the Secretary of State for Education. From the citation:
- Yak-Yak is winner of the 1996 Orfeus Prize because it adds an extra dimension to word processing.
- Yak-Yak is a powerful writing tool, which can be used at all levels and in many different situations. In native as well as foreign-language training.
- The program, which is both flexible and intuitive, breaks with traditional user-interface design, and enables each individual user to customize a graphic interface according to his personal needs. Despite the innovative interface design, it is possible to use the program after just a short introduction.
- Yak-Yak can be used by anyone producing written material and working with language in general. In addition, the program has great potential for uses in connection with special education for people with disabilities in speech, reading, or writing.
